driving a standard

if i never driven a standard shift before, if i ask the dealer if i could try out the xrs even though i never knew how to use the standard, would that be a wise decision

would a sales person be willing to show me how?

No it would not be a wise idea since you will tend to do a lot of clutch slipping and tax the clutch plus you will not be able to really see what the XRS is truly capable of. If you know how to drive a stick well, you would be amazed at how this car actually is. Best thing to do is to find a friend who has an old car and ask him to let you get the hang of it and drive with him for 2 days or so and then go to the show room and ask them to let you drive an XRS and hit lift and rev up to 8200 rpm and you will be addicted to lift. Do not pass up on an XRS just because you do not know how to drive a stick. It is the most likely the best stock Corolla ever built.

If you are really keen then have the sales guy drive the car himself and ask him to rev it hard and do hard cornering. You will know well by then.

Other option is to pay a driver's education firm for a 4 hour lesson on driving stick.

You probably won't be able to find a driver's ed that teaches standard here in the states

I told the guy at the dealership that I suck at driving stick, he let me drive it anyway, no problem. They probably won't let you take it past the posted speed limit anyway though. Not being able to drive something is not really a good excuse to not buy it.

hey man....i work at a used car dealership. And when i ride with someone, when they get on a back road..i tell them to step on it. Especially the red necks looking for V8 trucks, they love it.

So if the sales person is cool, he won't care. AND mostly if he wants to sell a car, he won't care.

Get someone who's good with a stick, and have them teach you.... I taught one of my friend's how to drive stick and she was able to drive ok on the roads within 15 minutes. There used to be a thread with a video on how to drive stick.... I'm too lazy to find it though
