I've noticed oil leaks around the engine, particularly around the head gasket and valve covers.. I've tryed tightening the valve cover gasket down, and it help the leak some, also I checked the coolant and it's pretty dark, I'm not sure if there is oil in it.. it has around 107k miles.. does these normally get oil leaks around this time or? uses about 3/4 quart every 3k miles

Well you cant really see the headgasket.. but the valve cover seal, if its leaking just replace it. also another typical leak place is the distributor O ring.

it may be leaking from the cam and crank seals also, if you change the valve cover gasket dont forget to seal (with RTV) the edges where your cam and distributer come out of the cover
