Angry bad things happening at wrong times

Well, not good news on my corolla. My brother was driving it today, and when it was in fifth gear, he said it started making some grinding-type noise and then a really really loud noise. Fifth gear stopped responding, the revs acted as in neutral, so he downshifted into 4th. After doing so, the car started making a weird noise. He managed to make it home, and when I started it when I came home from school, it's still making noise in any gear or idling.
So I'm guessing my tranny's toast, which is really bad, because the muffler fell off recently too and it's any expense when I'm still looking for work. Not good...

^ i think he's driving a early 80's Corolla (TEXX chassis).

DarkPrince114... when it rains, it pours.. huh? i know what you're feeling man. hang in there bud. for your tranny the T50 has many different variation as i'm told but it's all intercahngeable. try the AE86 crowd, i'm sure one of them might be able to sell you one.

I dont push my car hard at all. I wanted to wait until I put my DCOE weber in before I started to push my car a little more. Anyways, I do have a TE, TE72. I've been looking for a t50 locally, but not much luck, so I'm going to look for some ae86s in junkyards, since I couldnt find any from TEs near here.
