First of all, let me say it's nice to meet you all in advance. Had a few questions regarding my Corolla, stumbled upon this board, and decided to give it a go.
Due to my wife stipulating that I either "find a use for that POS car or get rid of it", I've decided to turn my 1986 Corolla LE Sedan into my new Group 2 Rally Car. However I've been having problems locating parts for this specific model (which I expected), and have been looking for crossover vehicles that share the same components. So far I haven't found any info on my car, as it has a chassis code not listed anywhere.
My VIN lists the chassis code as an AE83. WTF? Says this not only on the dash VIN, but on the doorpanel VIN and my DMV registration. And I haven't found jack on it.
So, do any of you have a clue as to what this means? Will any parts from the AE82 or AE86 chassis cross over?
I appreciate your help in advance as well. Thank you.
i think you're talking about the same car as the "Tampico Orange Juice Toyota Corolla" in this page right? (here's the page.. http://tedcomponents.com/customers.htm ) try contacting Richard from TED Components, i'm sure he can help you out!

BINGO! That's the one. Mine's not nearly so...colourful...but definitely the same car, except mine has the 4A-C engine. At least now I know it's possible, as that car is running in the same class that I'm wanting to (Group 2).
Unfortunately, it appears that 1. he only deals with engines and 2. not the engine in my car. I'm more concerned about suspension, as power isn't nearly as important as proper rally shocks/struts/springs.
Although, an Aisan 2bl carb that actually works would be nice

If you are looking at specific parts, I can let you know the interchangability with the correct info. let me know if I can help?
Most notably, interchangeability in the suspension. I know someone out there makes rally struts for the AE86, but I don't know if they'll fit. Really I'd like to know everything that can possibly be interchanged, but especially suspension stuff.
It's be interesting to know what that tangerine guy is running for suspension, but sadly I'm coming up empty.
Do the stock strut assemblies accept replacement strut cartridges? AE86 struts might not fit but cartridges tend to be pretty universal. I don't know.
AE82 was the designation for the FWD cars and AE86 was for RWD cars.. the AE8### on the vin number has nothing to do with these designations, Otherwise my car would be an AE94
