Hopefully, someone will know the real answer to my question - how much fuel is left in the tank when the gas light on the new 2005 Corolla comes on?
If anyone has read somewhere or otherwise wise knows the answer, I would greatly appreciate the assistance.
Please be specific down to the decimal without guesses. If you have to guess, save it for Vegas. If can site your reference, that also would be helpful.
[i]I heard its about two or three gallons left? Which is equavilant (can't spell) to 60-75 miles left in the tank to travel?
I "heard" that, not a fact proven [/B]
Two or three gallans would be sufficient for my purposes. I read a post some time ago stating that the light came on when 10 gallons had been consumed, but no justifiable data was provided to back up that hypothesis.
My readings also showed that usually the "low fuel" light is designed to flick on when there's only a 2 gallons (or so) gas left in the tank....
But this may not be accurate..... just like the fuel gauge in the cluster....it's never precise....it's a floating device that detects about how much gas is left in the tank...
Don't try to go the "extra mile" when the light goes on.... get gas... an engine that runs out of gas can get damaged....
I would say, if you do run it down till the light goes on, bring it to the gas station right away and see how many gallons you put in the tank, and subtract it from the size of the tank.....that should answer it.

5 Lug Corolla WHAT?
i seriously don't think the gas stations pump meter are that accurate. They accurate, maybe like 95%.
At times, i feel as though the money keeps clicking and ticking, and the "gallons" keep rolling, but its not equivalent to the actual amount of liquid gas being entered into the car.
My gas light comes on at about 2 gallons too. Can't get an exact measurement though.
IMO the gas light warning is a little early... 2 gallons left in a 13 gallon tank is still a substantial amount - almost 15% of the tank left... they should make it 10% or less before the light comes on.
At 41 MPG (highway), I'd still be able to drive 80 miles before running out...
Not Sure about Miles, here in Canada corolla's have a 50 litre Tank and the Low fuel Light comes on with between 9.5 and 10 litres Remaining, Which would be about 3 Gallons Aprox. it is based at 20% of fuel remaining. I have proven this by running it to the low fuel light then filling up 3 times and depending upon my distance to the next station, I was able to put between 39.8 to 42.6 l of fuel in it.

I dunno, my 2 cents. Lol
I'm sure there are some gas stations that try to cheat but there are laws regarding weights and measures in each state. For Illinois they have high precision metering trailers they drive around to gas stations to test them. In Illinois and i am pretty sure everywhere there has to be a yearly certification on every pump.
It is a pretty stiff fine if a station gets caught cheating in Illinois. The fine more than outweighs grifting a few cents per gallon.
Now speaking about the gas light in the 05 corolla. My fuel light went on and I put a little over 11 gallons in. That means with the 13.2 gallon tank it goes on right around 2 gallons left. Now all I have to do is stay out of lift and maybe i'll see more than 23 mpg

Im my Camry, I have just about 2.5 gallons left when it goes on. I would think it would be about the same in most cars but not sure.
My Corolla has almost exactly 2 gallons left every time once the fuel light goes on... depends on how much I overfill it. My 1992 Camry and 2004 Camry come on with far more gas in the tank. It took some getting used to the Corolla, but I guess that's the drawback of a smaller tank (done by percentage).
