Showing of age ...

Ok, so I'm tired of the 'air-shock' feel while driving. The car is an 86 Corolla sedan le, which doesn't even have 80K on it yet, and I think it's time to upgrade the shocks/struts. And I'm not impressed w/ my options for replacement. Are there any aftermarket set-ups out there? I thought maybe kyb did, but after having them on my last car (GR-2's)... IMHO; they sucked!!!

I also have an '86 sedan le, and I'm using the KYB adjustables and they're great. Of course, mine is a rally car...

I think Tokico makes Illuminas to fit our cars.

i installed the front strut assemblies out of a 87 corolla fx16 gts into my 86 sedan, it rocks handles much better and as for replacement for those, its the same as stock corolla struts, just the springs are about an inch bigger in diameter

I also have a sedan le (AE80), i juzt want to know the rear strut can replace only the strut insert, without the whole shock. The original one is Tokico gas-filled 4C. And the strut mount is clicking, but the rubber part is good, no cracking or tear out at all. Can i put a washer to compensate the noise?

so the KYB sucked because??? KYB are stiffer than OEM, you should've known that when you bought them. If you wanted a soft ride then OEM or even Monroe would've been better. I have KYB's on my car and they corner and handle a lot better than OEM struts, which felt like I was gliding.

..... they are only 15% stiffer than the oem struts and were my only option for an upgrade when i got them w/ my coilovers for my last car... and i regret getting them. I dunno i guess i expected them to be somewhat remotely close to the ride quality of tokico hp's at least. But, I paid the price and used them, in turn i learned never to waste my money on them again.
