make me a believer!

i've been a 4AG fanatic for a long time now. i've had both the 16V and the 20V. both carb-d and EFI. and the other thread makes me wonder why anyone would modify a 4AF and spend all these money to get to performance level. i'm very curious about this.

to ALL 4AF guys here at TN, make me a believer! why should i drop my 4AG right now and swap an AF in it? what would be the biggest benefit for me to do this. what's the cost of the mods to have it rev like my AG, and make it pull hard at 5000-7300rpm. enumerate ALL the mods i need and the cost of each item. i wanna know...

**PLEASE, DON'T MAKE THIS A DEBATE BETWEEN THE 4AG AND 4AF GUYS. i know the upsides and the downsides of the 4AG, now let's give the 4AF guys a chance to explain and proove to us why the 4AF is better choice!

***AND PLEASE, NO IMMATURE COMMENTS!

I have no possibility of swapping a 4A-GE into my car.
Well I do, but its a shitty process to do it.... Plus I'm always the guy who tries to make the disliked engines into the more potential ones. Because I dont see that the 4A-GE would be that much better at the end.

You could call it a personal conquest of sorts.

^come on man, that's you best attempt! Flashmn, make me realize that in the end the AF would be better. are we still just talking about the head design being narrow? that's it?

Well... there's also that tuning problem with the Dual Over Head cams being run off slave gears to each other...

IMO... the F head is built for low-end response. If you want a high n/a performance motor... the F head will see its limits faster because of the narrow design and the somewhat limited cam timing... however... from a torque standpoint... if you want to build an all-out stroker motor with an ephasis on torque, the F heads will be far superior because the G heads have a tendancy to kill low-end when built up...

That being said... the F head under boost with tall strokes is the torque maker. If you're going Drag... torque is your friend. Paradise Racing has built a 2RZFTE powered AE86 that can lay down high 8 second runs in the 1/4 mile. The only mods are boost and a built bottom end. It's all done on the STOCK FE Head with STOCK CAMS, STOCK PORTS... STOCK! Pretty impressive if you ask me.

Now if you guys want to sell the man the F head... do it like that... =D

seriously am not! the reason i started the thread is to make me see what i don't know, and since you guys knew AF then isn't it the way to go? and for my last comment on the previous post, that was the ONLY thing i got from what you said to Kwanza on the other thread that's all.

Might as well go 7AFE, unless you specifically want carbed.

The 4AF will pull just the same as a GE if you put better cams in that shift the power band up higher.. I got the best pull out of my 4AF between 5-7K

You could adjust the cams by the master/slave gear teeth.. I did that.. I'd run the intake cam 1 tooth advanced from the exhaust cam.. and it gave me a lot better acceleration..

Don't get a 4AF though unless you plan on going through a lot of shit with setting up carbs.. it ain't easy to tune them. Just antoher learning process.

I'm fairly happy with my 7AFE right now.. I wish I had the extra cash to throw some larger cams in it.. would make a difference.. that and some custom throttle work.

^^^ well that's not fair, as you can swap cams into a 4age as well, otherwise you're comparing something that's been worked on to something that's stock..... lol
