'86 Corolla Transmission/Axles questions

I just replaced the driveaxle assemblies on my '86 Corolla because I had torn boots on the outer CV Joints on both sides and the car had been driven like that for quite a while. When I turned on the car after I installed the new ones(remanufactured) and shifted into reverse the CV Joint on the right side of the car seems to have "snapped". The shaft on that side turns but the other shaft does not and neither do the wheels turn.

I put the car back up on jackstands and have been rotating the axles by hand trying to see exactly what happened.

Here's what I see.

When I rotate the wheel on the side that seems to have the damaged outer CV joint, the shaft will turn with the wheel when I rotate it slowly but the wheel rotates without the shaft when I up the speed of rotation.

When I rotate that shaft itself by hand the the wheel does not rotate with the shaft, it remains stationary.

Same thing happens when I rotate the wheel on the opposite side. Both shafts turn but the wheel on the right doesn't.

Here's the odd thing, when I rotate the shaft by hand on the right side the shaft and wheel on the other side don't turn.

And also the car moves when it is in park. I can push it and it will move. When I try to rotate the right side shaft while the car is in park that side will lock in place like its supposed to. So I'm assuming that the other side is still free to rotate and is rotating along with the wheel with the damaged joint when in park.

The question is wouldn't the driveshafts rotate together? And if one locks shouldn't both be locked?

Or would the '86 Coralla have differentials that can rotate seperately like many newer cars?

Possible that the transmission or differentials have some damage as well?

The car worked great(minus some cooling problems) before I changed the axles.

Any help would be appreciated.

So, you mean the boots are totally twisted and broken?( I mean.. wheel turning, axle not..)
Well, the thing about reman axles, as far as I know, they don't fit really well, some too tight, some too lose.
what I mean by that is, there should be a play, about an inch or so, last time I got mine from Kragon, they had at least 2 inches, and the boot was like.. totally stretched, so I had to return them. Took me 2 hours to find one that fits at Peppboys. Mine was ae92, but I had to use AE86's axles, and they are.. seem to be, running ok..
might be the same problem? didn't fit, stretched too much out?
