switching auto to manual...

I've been thinking, I want to learn stick. However, none of my friends are willing to lend me their car so I can learn, and I don't blame them....resentment is another story...grr

anyways, I'm thinking of taking my 2001 Corolla automatic and turning it into a manual.

Can anyone where give me a brief run through of what parts will need to be change so I can research the price and think this through a bit more?

Haha, not only is this not possible with a limited amount of money, but it's just not right..

Just look into classes that provide learning of standard tran's.. it'll save you thousands.

Standard parts list:

Tranny (obviously)
Clutch Pedal w/ hardware
Flywheel
New Clutch & Throwout Bearing
Slave Cylinder
Manual Shifter Assembly
Gear Oil

As far as pricing, this will be for you to research...

Good luck..

unless you're actually doing the labor or you know someone that will help you, i suggest to leave it alone. but if you insist, ithink you're looking at around $1500-$2000 including parts and labor. for that price, get yourself an old crappy car with standard tranny.

Easiest way.. sell your car and buy a 5-spd corolla.

IMO this doesn't work coz most of the time you don't know the current condition of the car you're buying. there are worn out parts that need replacement but won't know till it breaks. while on the other hand if you had your old car for a while you have an idea of what nedds fixing. just my 0.02!
