Engine Swap Help

Aight, I don't know much about cars... I know enough about my car to fix it once I find out what is causing the problem, so with that stated I'll get to the point.

I have a 1989 Toyota Corolla coupe (sport) with a 4-AF engine (SR5) and have been having some problems recently.
It all started when I was driving. I was leaking a bit of oil into the first cylinder prior and after I got up there it started to misfire. I replaced all the sparks, distributor car and wires, and rotor cap. I also replaced the O-rings. The car runs a little better but still seems like it's misfiring. You can smell raw fuel if the car is cold when you start it up. Runs rough when the engine is cold (like it is still misfiring), replaced the fuel filter and still have the same problem.

Any ideas on what might be the problem at this point would be greatly appreciated.

Also thinking about doing an engine swap to a 4-AFE in the near future (2 or so months). I already have the computer and I believe the engine drops right in. Anyone have any knowledge on if that is true?

If you're leaking oil into the cylinder, you got a blown headgasket. That's the reason of misfire.
Also why not swap in a 4A-GE? Same amount of work but more power then the 4A-FE.

Well, the price price and availability are the main reasons. I mean, I can get a 4A-F motor for like 700 and I am unable to find any place to buy a 4A-GE motor. Besides, does the 4A-GE drop right in my car without anything special aside from the tranmission and everything else that needs to be replaced. I am just trying to keep the cost down on the repairs.

The oil has stopped leaking into my first cylinder since I replaced the O-rings. I haven't had that problem in a while.
I am gonna adjust the timing on my car when I get out of work to see if that does anything.

Um, he said he doesn't want 4A-GE. My advice would be to swap for a 7A-FE.

eh... I think I am just gonna go with the 4A-FE due to lack of money... Until I scrape together enough for that, any got any ideas as to why my engine is screwed up? I dieseled 2 times today.

It sounds like the carbed engine blues, Ok oil in the cylinders, do you mean where the spark plugs are? I had a 4af and all I did was get an intake manifold off a 4afe with the injectors in it and be sure you have access to the car the 4afe is in because you are gonna need al;ot of stuff, and put that intake on your motor. Get the ECU and all the wiring, the gas tank and the fuel lines, its a job, but if u have lots of time and another car, you can do it
