I Just bought a New Toyota Corolla XRS yesterday, it is a Phantom Grey Pearl. I Traded in my 99 accord 4cyl ex. I was looking at the Honda civic si, came very close to buying it. I Stopped by my toyota dealership on my way home and took a xrs for a test drive....i was hooked instantly, i just love the way the car handles. I never thought i would buy a 4 door car but there is something about the xrs that catches my eye...I have to wait till Saturday to pick it up, can't wait.
I managed to get the winter tire and rim package thrown in for free, it come with michellin x ice tires.
I read somewhere that the xrs requires premmium gas, is that true.
Thanks
Newfie

Welcome to club XRS. You are just getting started. The more you drive it, the more you push it hard ( warning: after 2000 KM break in) and hit lift, the more you would appreciate this car and addicted to driving it.

It's a good thing gas prices are going down again.
And Congrats on the XRS purchase. A wise decision you have made. Phantom's a good colour too.
Just a suggestion, I wouldn't use anything above 91 because it will kill your engine faster. I have a '04 Le and I load it with 89, and it runs great. Just a suggestion.

So your saying supreme gas is good for the xrs, bad for the LE is that right...
What is the reccomend way to break in the engine, some people are tellling me to drive it like i stole it, they say it is the best way to break it in. others are saying to be gentle with it for the first 2000 km...
Pick up my car tomorrow (sat) can't wait!!

Regular gas can kill your engine a lot faster than the premium gas regardless of a high compression or low compression car ( all high compression, s/c'ed and Turboed cars must get premium gas).

I finally picked up my new XRS today.....it is too bad it is frigging snowing here, can't get my winter tire package put on till next week, so i didn't get a chance to do much driving!! the car don't handle too well with those summer tires on there, so i guess i will have to sit in it in my garage for today...

yeah man keep your ride in your garage till you get your winter package together. you'll feel more confident in your daily driving. i have to sell my winter tires before the next winter season arrives. im putting on my big brake kit this summer and minimum requirement is 17"rims. i have 16" steelies/tires on so I cant have those for next year. its gonna cost me an arm and a leg to replace them but hey...you only live once!
Ive only seen them in black and blue, id Love to see some pics of your XRS.
As for octane, its simply a measure of how slow the fuel will burn. The lower the number, the faster it burns. turbo, sc, or high compression engines reach higher temperatures in the combustion chambers, so a slow burning fuel is required. if not, a lower octane fuel will pre-ignite causing damage (this is called detonation) since the fuel ignites too early your piston may still be on "its way up" and forces pushing it down prematurely are baaad you can also burn your pistons. This is my understanding of octane, someone correct me if im wrong
So too high an octane wont damage your engine (as far as I know) its just not required for regular engines
