car vibrating

my corolla(1993 corolla-1.6l engine)sputters all the the time i was told it could be the fuel filter. when i get up 55-60 mph the engine vibrates. is this the dirty fuel filter, timing belt, or something else causing it to do this. i plan to change the plugs and wires once i figure whats causing the vibrating. i would appreciate if you guys help me out.

Have you checked your motor mounts? one might be loose or broken also are you positive its your engine vibrating? I had a front wheel out of balance once that drove great till I hit 55/60 and it almost shook the fenders off...also pull a couple plugs and check them out, if it sputters "all the time" its probably not your wires but if their old I would replace them anyway...also could be a blocked fuel injector or a bad coil or fuel pump...It could also be as you think a fuel filter, if its the kind thats in your gas tank it will be a pain to check....Raddman Out...

Defenetly check the engine mounts. But it's probably your wheels are out of balance. I have the same problem with my '93 corsica. And recently after I replaced the front two tires on my'04 corolla, my wheel started shaking, but that was because my mechanic didn't balance my tires (never taking my car to that idiot again).

EMEX Not to be nosey but why did you have to replace your two front tires? I just replaced all four of mine, I had Goodyear Integrity's on and at a little over 30,000 they were almost slick... ....Raddman Out....

A bit imbarassing. But I hit a high curb and I though I only scratched the rim, but after I took a closer look (right away) I saw that I popped my tire. Sinse both of my front tires were pretty much bold, I replaced both to save myself a hassle. And this way I won't get confused when I am doing tire rotation or replacing my tires in the future.
