Odd 4age problem...

Not sure exactly what is wrong, but it has happened twice this week.

While driving, I hit the gas and it sounds as though air is coming from my exaust, makes a hissing sound, and power is really low.

I pull over, rev the engine, jump out to see if I can figure out where it is coming from, and it goes away.

However, today it did it on the freeway, I pulled over and it went away, but now my exaust seems to be making this really low (bass like sound) grumble, when I shift or even when I am revving around 3000rpm it is the worst. I thought it might be a vacuum leak, but I am not sure, I can't check it until it is light tomorrow, but though'd I would come here first and ask.

Any suggestions?

your flex pipe makes a lil hiss/wistling noise.... you can hear it best around 2.5/3,000 rpms not sure what the rumbling could be

also you can hear it really good on highway i think it sounds cool !! lol

i was driving a honda accord and had the same problem then i was accelerating hard then heard a boof then the car sounded like it had a free flow exahust. when we pulled over found that the pipes in the muffler had rusted away and shoot out the back

by the sound of it you need a new muffler

I'd look at both the muffler and the catalytic converter.........as well as for any broken welds along the exhaust path. How about one of the gaskets (starting to let go) between the cat and the exhaust pipes?

That does sound like the baffles are coming loose inside the muffler, I'd think that it would rattle though.

My car is doing that right now because the exhaust pipe unbolted it's self. It may also be that your exhaust mainfold has started to warp/crack.
