Ok guys, so it's not quite so easy... I have a 99' Corolla, and let me tell you it was a pain -.-. After going through that, I figure why not let the next guy skip the figuring-it-out process?
Specifically, this is to change the driver's side bulb which has the battery in the way. Whether the regular lights or brights are out, it is the same bulb with two filaments.
THE PROCESS
Step 1: Remove the ridiculous bar holding the battery down, take off the terminals, and set the battery someplace where you won't lose it...
Step 2: Unplug the terminal from the back of the bulb; Wiggle it a bit and it comes straight off. Once that's off, you'll see the three prongs coming from the back of the bulb.
Step 3: There is a big, fat rubber boot over the entire thing... Don't be afraid to yank on it, it's the only way for it to come off; Slide it straight back, you may have to dig your fingers beneath it to pry it loose.
Step 4: Once the rubber boot is off, set it aside where you won't lose it, and you'll be able to see the assembly holding the bulb in place.
There are three small black screws holding down what looks like a bent-up paper clip to the back plate of the bulb.
Step 5: Remove
ONLY the little screw holding the clip in place. It's the one that's furthest to the left(driver's) side of the car.
Be extremely careful not to drop it or you'll be fishing that little screw/clip out of the engine area.
Step 6: Once the clip is off, the headlight bulb should basically fall out, but if it doesn't just give it a little tug.
Step 7: Put the new bulb in place. Ensure the bulb is right-side-up, hold it down, replace the paperclip thing the way you too it off, and put the screw back which holds it down.
Step 8: Slap the rubber boot back on, and press all of the edges so it's secure- Pay close attention to the bottom, it's a bit tricky to reach with your fingers.
Step 9: Once the boot is back in place, plug the female terminal back onto the bulb's prongs.
Step 10: Figure out where you put the battery, stick it back in, and replace the terminals. You may want to leave off the doofy bar assembly which is meant to hold it down- It's not necessary.
Step 11: Test the lights before you close the hood, shut it, step back and pray that the light never goes out again.
If I missed something obvious, lemme know and I'll edit this.
