Canada rust protection

i know that the new cars have some type of rust protection on them

i just got my new car now a 2005 toyota corolla,

i live up here in northwestern ontario, where they still do use salt on the roads in winter.

even thoughi have the warranty on the car

should i bother this year with getting the car rust protected(weatherguarded) etc or what ever name u call it

or am i ok, and just keep it clean when it warms up properly and get a rust protection job done next year?

Yeah, I got my XRS with that Protection package, that included the 3M guarding of the interior upholestry, diamond wax treatment, soundguarding, and rust proofing.
its a good way of protecting your ride man. plus the protection package will help with the resale value of your ride. its transferable up 7or8 years to the next owner if you chose to sell your ride.

wax protection is good..i have a Red XRS and they said if any part of the car ever fades out....bring it back to us and we'll do the paintjob over again(free). the soundguarding, provides an extra buffer from the road noise you encounter during your daily driving, bumps, grooves, certain road paths....etc.

rustproofing is self explanatory, and interior is good if you have children or dumb ass friends who tend to dump beer or slushies in your car! *grrrrr*

anyways i hope that helps out.....

fact:

automotive manufacturers use ED (electro deposition), a water based paint as one of the first paint layers that prevents rust. Almost all modern cars uses this technology nowadays.. cars are dipped in big tanks sa underbody and almost all portions including hidden panels get painted with this.

Moreover, as sound deadener and rust proof, PVC (poly vinyl chloride) are sprayed on wheel houses to prevent rust and reduce sound. The black things underneath the vehicles are just for aesthetics, no more no less. With this too, the car can last for at least 10 years or so provided no external damage will inflict the panels.

But if you want to get additional protection, you may put in additional rubber coating like 3M.

Well you can argue how good the factory rust proofing is till the end of space and time. However if you really want to keep your investment looking good, then get it rustproofed properly, inside and out. I prefer Dinitrol chemicals, they are the top line product in the rust proofing range.

Yeah, probably in the philippines... older cars rust there, becuase the sea air still has salt in it (just look at old AE92's there). But over here they use salt on the roads to dissipate ice, which means the salt levels are much higher and this causes accelerated corrosion in bodypanels, which no PVC plastic coating can protect.

Believe me I know how it feels

But like I said, get your car rustproofed and dont skimp out on the money. I mean, a car is a big investment, and I'd deal with it like it is something you plan on keeping along time... Only the best. Tho I'm going to get mine rustproofed next summer, since I'm going to sandblast the inside of the trunk next spring, no sense rustproofing it and then getting it blasted afterwards, is a shitty job to get rid of the chemicals prior.

would i be ok, if i didnt get it done this year and just kept it clean for now? would i be risking getting rust on it?

i would get it rustproofed next year for sure.

I think the painted parts arent the first ones to rust. Its the insides of the bodypanels where salt gets stuck and stays for long times. Rust proofing is done with a waxish compound that is sprayed inside the doors and bodypanels.
