Exclamation Corolla AE82 FWD

I have a 1987 Corolla in semigood state, and I want to enhance its performance. I'm new at all this so if anyone could help out in sugestions or advice I'll be very thankfull. I saw some headers at http://store.racinglab.com but i'm not sure wich one is better. I think my engine is 4ALC or 4AG, or something, Im not sure, but It's an '87 Corolla, FWD, with AE82 body, Sedan, 4speed manual gear box. If anyone could tell me the code of the engine.... THANKS

Question, if I turbocharged mi car, would I have to enhance exaust by adding a header or muffler or something??, or should I leave it be just the way it is??

How much faster are you talking? Because honestly your not going to be able to squeeze too much performance out of that 4A-C without spending a lot of money. A stock FX16 GTS 5-speed with the 4A-GE runs a low 17, high 16 in the quarter mile... and thats the top of the line model.

The cheapest route would probably be an engine swap (and when I say cheapest, I mean in relation to building up your 4A-C).
Your easy options are:
4AGE (off a FX16 GTS or really any Corolla for that matter).
4AGZE (Mark I MR2 Supercharged)
4AGE 20 valve (off a JDM Corolla)

So in summary, your going to either need good mechanical do-it-yourself knowledge, or...

1) few thousand dollars.
2) A good shop with a good reputation that can preform the swap.

My opinion? Find a GTS Corolla and modify that.
