I heard that 5 speed is good for gas saving, and 4 speed is good for drag,.. is that true??? that for the 4 speed transmission's gear ratio are set to launch faster?
What do you think?

i think it depends on your tranny's ratios..

but most likely if you're talking about factory ratios, i think both a 5 speed and 4 speed would cover the same over all speeds, just that the 5 speed has closer spaced gears.. i would think.. maybe i'm wrong

Generally, a 5-speed manual version of a car will have both better acceleration and better gas mileage than its 4-speed automatic sibling.

assuming that engine is the same and the top speeds are the same, the more gears you have the better use of the power band you have. with too few gears, you've got long gears which takes more torque to pull thru.

thanks for the info guys... and I'm talking about both manual trannys. 4 speed manual and 5 speed manual,..but anyways, the thing is that my brother has everything to put in the new/used tranny,.. but it's a 4speed manual tranny.
Right now I have a 3speed automatic tranny.
