Question Problem With the Gear box

Hi. I have a 87 corolla AE82 with a 4A engine. I dont know the specs on the gear box but its givin me a little trouble. When the car is parked for a while, when I turn it on and put it in reverse, it makes a horrible sound, (kinda like a Truck) like if the teeth of the gears where crashing into each other. It only happens when the car is cold, or after I put it in 1st gear anda than back to reverse. Can anybody help me?

What kind of clutch do you have?
I mean servo assisted clutch or a basic clutch?

I realy don´t have a clue of what a servo asisted clutch is.. Is it one of those that have springs on the clutch disk? (I´m a real newbe on all this). In any case, if its any help, its the stock clutch for a corolla 87.
I´ll check anyways and see if I figure it out, Thanks

If you have a servo clutch, a check if air exists in the ducts might help.

also, since the car is quite old and the noise is basically when it's cold, it might worth checking the level of oil in the gear box. I got also an old Corolla (1990) and half of the gear oil was gone. Almost same with the motor oil. It worths a check!

It might sound weird, but do you try to put in reverse while the car is still running? I do not mean the engine, i mean if the car is moving and you try to put in reverse.
