it is indeed an iron block..

the gze (super charged 4age) uses teh exact same block as the red tops and 20V (slightly beefier than blue top).. so take that for whatever its worth..

It is iron. If you run a moderate boost level, then you should be ok.

The Iron allows it to take a better beating so it to handle more pressure. So it can take a turbo no problem. Like I said before you should go to Club 4AG and read the reference section. This has a **** load on modding options as well as being able to tackle just about any question you have about the AE86 and the 4AGE wether it be 16V or 20V.

So go here now!!!
This is where I I found most of my information on both the AE86 and 4AGE.

My mechanics AE100 (94afaik) Rolla is running stock internals on a 4A-FE and 15psi boost. Thats about 200hp, only problems are that the clutch slips under full acceleration, well stock clutches arent rated for double the hp, also the wheels spin momentarily when you hit full boost. due to the fact that theres no LSD. Heh, but I was riding in it last friday. HOLY CRAP it was so awesome, never felt a rolla go SO FAST!

yeah, the block on a 4a-fe is the same also... yes, iron.... just the head is different.... weaker and originally built for economy.... so at least i have SOMETHING over the 4a-ge.... (like 5 miles to the gallon more)

"weaker" <- depends really, you CAN tune the 4A-F to be a powerful engine aswell, but it takes more effort.

Not true. The 4A-FE can take AS MUCH pressure as the 4A-GE, maybe even more as the compression ratio is lower.
