I'm new to this forum and fairly new to Toyota, period. You wouldn't believe how surprised I was finding a forum where most the people are from Toronto. I've been a Honda fan for a while now, but I've been quite interested in getting the AE86 now. Doing a little research this seems like a fun car to drive. Most of you all seem to love this car.
I was wondering one thing though, what engine could I swap into this car. I know that a SR20DET or a rotary engine (13B??) can be put in, but is there anything less costly?
All I know is about B-series motors so any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Using those two motors as examples is almost like saying you can stuff in any motor with a FR format. The best is to stick in to toyota family and look thru the series of 4AG engines. There's a lot that can be done with just that motor.
Oh sorry, i didnt see that the cost factor was an issue. And since it is, there is no point of doing a swap. Cuz if you plan on going boost, then you better have a fat wallet.
i highly doubt that is a "trend" in japan.. saying that is like saying that 700+hp supras are a trend in the US.. yeah, they are out there and there are more people doing it, but its still not common.. not like a b16 whatever into a honda
i would say first find a nice ae86 then play with it for awhile then think about a swap.. in the "play with it for awhile" phase you will probably realize that it costs so much to keep this thing going you might give up on the swap idea
haha
