Sup y'all,

I'm new to this forum and fairly new to Toyota, period. You wouldn't believe how surprised I was finding a forum where most the people are from Toronto. I've been a Honda fan for a while now, but I've been quite interested in getting the AE86 now. Doing a little research this seems like a fun car to drive. Most of you all seem to love this car.

I was wondering one thing though, what engine could I swap into this car. I know that a SR20DET or a rotary engine (13B??) can be put in, but is there anything less costly?

All I know is about B-series motors so any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Using those two motors as examples is almost like saying you can stuff in any motor with a FR format. The best is to stick in to toyota family and look thru the series of 4AG engines. There's a lot that can be done with just that motor.

Like what?

I used those 2 as examples because that's the trend in Japan now. Apparently there's a lot of these hybrids there.

Well you could put in a 3sgte in or *ahem* a 1JZGTE. Yeah good luck!

Oh sorry, i didnt see that the cost factor was an issue. And since it is, there is no point of doing a swap. Cuz if you plan on going boost, then you better have a fat wallet.

i highly doubt that is a "trend" in japan.. saying that is like saying that 700+hp supras are a trend in the US.. yeah, they are out there and there are more people doing it, but its still not common.. not like a b16 whatever into a honda

i would say first find a nice ae86 then play with it for awhile then think about a swap.. in the "play with it for awhile" phase you will probably realize that it costs so much to keep this thing going you might give up on the swap idea

haha

well how much you spend all depends on what your goals are for this car

restore it to stock?

or fully done up track racer? or decked out street car with some track use?

I might take you up on that offer, but it won't be for a while.

Do you use it for track? or is a daily driver?
