04 Corolla S vs 05 Corolla XRS warm up time

Hi guys. I traded in my 04 Corolla S for an 05 Corolla XRS two months ago. Usually, in 04 Corolla S, I would start it up and idle for about 10-15 minutes and the temperature needle used to go up to the one quarter point of the guage under normal warm temperature. Now, I find it a bit strange that my 05 Corolla XRS has an unusually long warm up time where the guage needle stays on cold even after idling for 10-15 minutes. I understand it must be because of the unusually high revving nature of the engine and that the rev limiter is at 7100 rpm as opposed to 8500 rpm when it is cold. Therefore, now I usually idle for 5 - 7 minutes and then start driving it slowly and try to keep the revs between 2000 and 4000 rpm and it warms up in the next little while. My question is about this approach as to whether it is safe to drive off the car at low revs after idling for 5-10 minutes while the needle is still sitting at C. Other XRS owners, please share your experience. Thanks.

You don't need to let the car warm up all the way.
Read your manual.
If it's warm out, you should only need to wait about 15 seconds for the oil pressure to come up.
It it's cold, maybe 1-3 minute warm up is fine
You are right about revving up though. Don't try to hit lift untill it is fully warmed up

Maybe you need a new thermostat. For the price of one I would say change it and see if it helps.

Holy thread resurrection batman. This thread is almost 2 years old when I got my XRS brand new. As for the idle time, it has gotten better since I do not wait idling for it to reach optimal operation temperature (middle of the gauge). I just wait for 2-3 mins and start driving. Case closed.

When it's warm out just start up... wait 15-30 seconds and go. In the winter maybe when it gets really cold wait like 5 min. Just be gentle on it till it's at normal operating temp, but you really don't need to warm it up by standing.

Yep. That sounds right. Pretty much what I do most of the time.

I just jump in, turn radio and a/c on, buckle up and go. I go easy on the revs until warming up. 15-30 secs will do.. Remember it warms up quicker when driving
