Exclamation Changing from 4speed to 5speed gearbox

I've got a stock corolla 87 and I'm thinkin of getting a 5 speed manual gearbox for it (It's got a 4 speed). Its gear box is quite strong and I like that, but it doesn't develop to much speed (in fact it barely gets to 90 MPH but at such high RPM that it scares the shit out of me to push it more. You guys think its a good Idea?

Can I keep the same radius relation between the fisrts 4 gears as the one I currently have? in other words, is it posible to get a gearbox that's the same as mine but with one extra sinchro for fifth (I don't know to much about all this, I hope you get the Idea, hehe)

Not quite sure as to what exactly you were on about with the synchros and stuff.....but try and source yourself a 5spd box from and XX or GTS....my friend has a ke70 with a 4 spd box and i have a 5 spd (an XX model), same gear ratios, with an extra on top...It may stay the same for later models too...His gearbox makes the engine scream its t!ts off at high speeds too, whereas mine isnt so badWorth checkin out though..

Hope this helps somehow..

Cheers

The XX is a way of marking a certain level of a car model...for example...here in Australia you have your basic Holden Commodore...Theres the commodore: Executive,Acclaim,Berlina,Calais,S,SS,Clubsport... .All varying levels of trim, engine power, gearboxes, bodykits etc...

With the ke70 Corollas, theres the CS,CSX,CX and the XX...Get my meaning now?

Cheers

XS, Xsi, GL, GLi

and an 87 is FWD... so, it would be a C52 tranny.
