Is it okay if I blockup the EGR valves?? Engine light keeps turning on after a while of driving. How much power does this really give me anyway???

figure out why your CEL light is coming on in the first place. and if its because of that, then figure out whats wrong with it if you really care. or else if your like me you could just leave it. i mean if it aint broken dont fix it right? the car still gets you from point A to point B. lol. seriously dont take my advice. its terrible. but really find out exactly what is causing the CEL.

Hmm....not sure what year we're dealing with here...

You're throwing the CEL because of insufficient EGR flow. Nine out of ten times it's caused by a gunked up EGR valve. It's pretty trivial to remove it, clean it out with some pipe cleaners and slap it back on.

The problem with removing it, atleast for my ole 4AFE, was that it would ping like a mofo. Recycling exhaust gases can be a good thing. Keeps cylinder temps down, reduces NOx, etc.

It doesnt affect performance at all, if u plug it.. however, you will fail the state emission test.

CEL with faulty EGR

I have a 95 corolla and the CEL readout showed a faulty EGR . Toyota dealership recommended repairing at 600$. is it easy to do it by self and save that $? I would guess not- but, experts pls advise!
The car is working good and I wa stold that I wouldnt pass the emission testing because of the CEL (or even if the CEL was reset by pulling off the neg terminal of the battery- as they look for a record from the vehicle's computer and there wouldnt be any record).

all the egr does is recirculate exhaust gas into your cylinders to prevent predetonation its really not a big deal so long as you arent running anything major on your motor

if you disconnect the bat for at least 5min it erases the ram on the computer so it wont have any faults stored in it

its got nothing to do with predetonation, its strictly for reducing emissions.

All of the above, and also the thing will block itself off just as soon as you hit the gas pedal anyways as the vacum drops, so there's no point in altering that system for any performance gain.

Actually, by cycling exhaust through your intake, the intake charge is cooled, & that HELPS prevent detonation. So yes, it does have something to do with that, as well as lowering the content of oxides of nitrogen.

Figure out a way to get it fixed. If better gas mileage isn't a good enough incentive for fixing your EGR valve, then consider yours & everyone else's health.

exactly the egr recirculates nitrous oxides NOx and hydrocarbons from unburnt fuel into the engine therefore reducing emissions (reburning burnt fuel) and since NOx is not burnable it helps keep your engine from predetonating the air fuel mix from hot cylinder walls

Go to junkyard and pull an old EGR. Or take the old one out and clean it. Most likely its blocked off with sludge.
