2005 XRS Exhaust Upgrade

Got my new XRS and was amazed at the piece of junk exhaust it came with. The tailpipe is like a pin hole and the muffler is like a coke bottle. I posted something similar to this in my Dealership Warranty Thread but this is specifically for exhausts. I had my eyes set on the new 2005 XRS TRD Sports Exhaust muffler but people are saying its a piece of junk. I saw a pic of it and it looks sweet. They also claim it gives a 3.7% power increase. If TRD is not the way to go someone please tell me what aftermarket exhaust system is the way to go.

i think the consensus is that its far too expensive and that it simply is not a piece of junk...4 bills for a muffler...i mean if you have the coin then get it, i'm sure it will sound awesome i'd rather spend a little more for a full cat-back

You can't run a bigger pipe to the CAT with the TRD muffler?

You think if I install a full aftermarket CAT back it would void my warranty?

So why do you want new exhaust anyways? It's not like Toyota put this extremely restrictive exhaust on and putting new exhaust on will free up 30HP. And TRD is as guilty as the other companies by making claims. Mufflers don't give you HP.

It's not gonna free up 30 hp but you will get a little. If I wwas you i would wait for a cat back to come out for around the same price...I can think of a reason for a new exhaust..looks and sound..

Here is the link for people who want to look at the TRD exhaust for XRS:

http://www.toyotaparts4u.com/e_catalog/

They claim the stock XRS dyno'ed 149 wheel HP @ 7000 as opposed to 154 HP @ 7000 with the exhaust. So that is approx. 5 HP gain. Most likely the peak HP at 7600 rpm must be around 164-165 wheel HP with the exhaust.

I friggin hate ***s with their gay shiny tin can performance exhausts on their ricers that sound like a freakin 2-stroke dirtbike. its just...gay. dont get something overly big-looking and i mean, no one really wants to hear the tinny whine of your riced engine anyway. no offense or anything. its just a personal thing. i can't stand it. just keep it stock. its kind of stupid to waste ur $$$ on an exhaust. get something that will make a bigger performance difference. but yea its your money. do what u want. best thing to do would be to drop a supercharged chevy 572 in there. that would sound really cool, not to mention it wouldnt fit at all, but yeah. riced exhausts just suck.
