frozen starter bolts

Anyone have experience with removing the two bolts
that hold the starter to the bell housing on a 96 1.6L
with standard trans ? These bolts are recessed...can't
get penetrating oil in there. Afraid too much torque will
break bolts. Suggestions ? Thanks.

Don't think you'll break the bolts, the bell housing is Alum. Use an impact gun to take it out.
You can heat the threaded side to get it out easier.
You should worry more about stripping the thread on the housing.

in re frozen bolts / pineapple

Many thanks, Pineapple. One repair garage told me that
Toyota coats their bolts with something to prevent this
kind of seizure. The garage that currently has my car
has a new can of "Kroil" (available from Eastwood Corp)
that is touted as a wonder penetrant for this type of
application. We'll see.
Sounds as if you have experience with this sort of thing.
All the best to our Canadian friends / reed

I'm rebuild a 5S-FE and swaping it in. Nothing was broken with my impact gun A few of them need 500lb to take off but they're Loctited. Also as a Project Engineer running a machine shop, I know steel bolt can't seize in alum.

in re seized bolts/pineapple

Thanks again, Pineapple...the words "frozen" and
"seized" certainly are emotionally loaded strongly
in the negative and may be the perception of the
repair mechanic who owns the garage where my car
now is...it may be his inexperience speaking.
