looking into a AE86

are these cars any harder to take care of then the normal cars we have today? I'm too great with the whole deal with the carb. My main concern. i know its nearly impossible to find one in perfect condtion. are there any other problem spots like leakage or any other known issues with these cars.

ae86's aren't carb'ed, at least not in unmodified form.. also, they're old, so they need lots of maintenance (as any car that old would)

if you find one with a sunroof, check if there's any leakage. my bro is having a problem with his. if you could, don't get one with sunroof or moonroof or whatever you call it. also check the floorings, the rear quarter panels, front fenders. those are the usual spots where there's rusts.

this isn't really a problem. but they were either a carburated 1.6L sohc or a efi 1.6L dohc. make sure you know what you really want.

They arent any different, they're just older... so that can bring more parts being worn out and needing replacement.

Their are many differnces between the SR5 and GTS. About the only thing that is the same is the chassis itself.
Go to www.Club4ag.com for all of you AE86 ownership questions.
Their Tech section is full of all you will ever need to know (Well almost everything) about the AE85/86.

Actually the AE86 and AE86 are not the same as GT-S or SR5. The AE85 had a 3A-series 1.5 liter engine.

they also came with a carburatored 4A 1.6L in the united states and a lot of small details are different. even the chassis was slightly difference because it came with extra spot welding in the later models.

whoa. so wait. some 4a's are carbed and some aren't ?

i want a ae86, to learn to drive stick and to have some fun driving it.

honestly i have no clue on how to maintain an older car. I just hope i get lucky. I dont like carbs period. So i duno what to say. I hope i get one w/o carb. what are the chances of that happening?

edit. someone correct me on this.

SR5's are carb SOHC
GTS are EFI DOHC

is this on ALL AE86's

3AC/4AC = SOHC = SR5 = carb
4AG = DOHC = GTS = EFI

long as you get a real gts or a sr5 swaped to make a gts you shouldnt have to worry about carbs.
