Thumbs up Corolla XRS 0-60 times

Today I was able to time my stock XRS from 0-60 mph, and even though the road was a little wet, I was still able to find some fairly dry spots to get pretty good traction. The weather here is still warm, about 70 degrees, and I am at about 500 feet above sea level.

I made 5 runs, and my friend and I both timed the runs with separate stopwatches, to make sure the measurements were accurate. Here are the results:

1st run: 7.1
2nd run: 6.9
3rd run: 6.8
4th run: 7.0
5th run: 6.8

I was pleased with the results, but my friend was not (he has a 03 civic si - custom cat-back/AEM intake).

Anyone else timed their XRS yet?

I used the old fashioned stop watch method using a 3000 rpm launch to calculate my 0-60 on three runs so give or take a few split seconds:

1 - 6.9 secs
2 - 7.1 secs
3 - 6.6 secs

Average: 6.8 secs

You don't need a stop watch. Just buy/borrow a G-tech. They are proven to be accurate. Much more so than the "stopwatch" method.

How much are they and how do they work?

I've done a lot of stopwatch timing, as my dad has always had me help him time his viper and vettes.

...but I do wonder about tach and speedo lag...

Yeah, I don't know where I launch it exactly... just wherever it feels right.

My 7sec+ runs were doomed by wheelspin. The 6.9 run I bounced off the rev limiter (oops - damn that tach lag!).

I was happiest with my last run, so I called it a day. I'm hoping for some better (dryer) weather soon, although it might get cold and nasty before I get a chance to try again.

The new ones run $199 to $299, they give HP etsimates and many other features.
They are an accelarometer and computer. They have been proven to be accurate to within .1 seconds if properly set (it needs to be level)

You have to be kind of hard on your clutch to attain maximum acceleration. But that's why you slip it instead of dump it, so you minimize the drive train shock.

The stopwatch method tends to be inaccurate.
You're limited by your (or better yet passenger's) reaction time, as well as actual speed vs. speedometer reading.

I use either the GPS data or my PDA software with an ODBII cable (similar to G-Tech) in my other car.
Much more accurate.

true on that... most peeps floor it right when they let go of the clutch. "stupid" your geting wheel hop...

set it high and maintain ur gas pedal as it spins and when it grabs floor the gas pedal and u will feel what im talking about.
