hey there whats up, umm came across this site from a post on the Toronto Accord Forum, anyways i just wanted to ask you guys a few questions.
my dad has a 99 basic ass auto Corolla, like im talking BASSSSIC!!! i think its a VE or something like that.
anyways hes always complaining that on the highway the car runs like a POS. he says in the rain its HORRIBLE, in the snow even worse, and basically just a pile of sh**.
are all stock Corollas handle real bad?? i used to think it was a kinda cool lil car to boot around in.
would wider tires or aftermarket springs help it out any? like hes a old man, he doesnt want a drop or anything, just a better ride.
also he says it has no pep on the highway. would a CAI help it out? i know my car feels better with the CAI
anyways any help would be greatly appreciated
chris

Odd, my bros 94 Corolla handled great stock, and even better now. But as far as the engine and stuff is concerned, yeah, much of the time, it's beyond redemption. Well, not without major work....
one of the reasons why a car could handle badly in the rain and snow is the tires.. tires make a much bigger difference than most people think.. not even necessarily wider ones.. just better ones.. a good set of summer tires adn a good set of winters
i have a '98 and the handling does kind of suck, I believe it's mostly due to the 175 Michelins, they suck really bad, spongy sidewalls, and terrible wet traction.
The stock springs and shocks are also a bit spongy.
First I'd change the tires, possibly go to a 15" rim with a little more width, then I'd look at getting an OEM set of struts like Sensatracs or something, and if your still not happy, a set of Eibach or H&R springs will help firm it up a bit, and only slightly lower the car.
My gf owns a 99 VE and it's a nice car. Power is enough for everyday use, suspension is comfortable for a family car. I drove it a couple of times and it's a nice car, very easy to drive.

I have a 99 and I love it! It's too bad your dads got an auto, because the things just loves to rev! I have a short ram intake on it and above 3000RPMs the thing just pulls! I leave it in 3rd getting on to the highway, get it up to 120 before going to 4th, and then cruising in 5th! Also I found that since I;ve been running sythetic oil, the response is better as well! And Maybe I'm crazy but I find Petro-Can gas is better than any other station!! Is it just me??
petro-cangas is the worst out of all the gas co. i find their gas to be awfully watered down. i myself and a few friends i talk to get not as good mileage out of Petro Cans gas as we do get out of their competitors.
sunoco is the best for 2 reasons. all their fuel contains 10% ethanol and they have the highest grade selection....94 grade.
you must be kidding??
i consistantly get @500+ kms hwy milage out of a full take, @ 40 liters!!
however i have had opposite results with sunoco.. i always thought that teh ethanol was what made the gas burn so quick, because when i fill i get just under 430kms on a full tank of sunoco gas
that is 87 octane to 87 octane comparison
on my trusty 4age engine
lates guys!!

I have had the same results, consistently over 500kms on a tank from Petro-can and peppier response, and when I go to Esso or Sunoco, well under 500km and the car feels sluggish! It's kinda wierd how we can have such different experiences!
The only gasoline doesn't perform well is Cheveron. Everyone said it's good but it feel sluggish when I drive it.
