intake system instead of carb?

i wanted to know if i could take off the top of my carb and rig up an intake with an elbow and a piece of pvc pipe with a cone filter...is this practical..would it hurt my engine?

this is what i wanted to do!

Yes you can do it like that. But thats not taking the carb off. You just take the filter casing off and put a 90deg elbow on it. If you took the carb off the car wouldnt obviously work

how big is the opening for the carb..the opening to the filter is 3" round so can i use a 3" round PVC pipe elbow and then hook up a straight one from that to the filter?

honestly guys that didn't work for me, i'd try that before using a 2" elbow on top of the carb and i ran the intake using some more pieces of pipe to the front of the car, right behind the front bumper. and i didn't get more pull then if i had on the filter pan.
Try running the intake to the front of the car as a ram air effect, with the filter pan on and you'll see and FEEL the difference. just try it and feel the difference at about 3000-4000rpm.

Flashmn, why did you do an airintake mod? I thought you believed that a stock airfilter setup, allowed all the required air to pass...

I figured, I'd rather wash the filter than change the paper filter every 3 months. Besides those cone filters have a larger area, so they get stuffed in a longer time period than the paper one. Additionally it was an experiment, plus I had nothing better to do so I tested it out and it sort of stayed there, because broke the stock box when I put in the cone intake.
