AE86 afm is a weak point in the system(they fail often...). This is one of the "false" concepts from the 80s that has persisted(ever read the Pat Braden book, "Toyota Performance Handbook"?). It isn't a real mod and can soon lead to failure. There is another "mod" you can do with a variable potentometer and the warm up sensor... in effect "fooling" the computer to add more fuel. I strongly recommend a set of cams, a mild dress up porting job, and slightly larger injectors for a real boost in power.

I remember doing that in 1985 to my German-made Opel. Worked great with the bigger exhaust; anything you can do to tune a car will be a bonus in gas mileage as well as performance/driveability.
Don't know about failures(?) from any decent tuning adjustments(lol), that's new to me!

I mean't that mod was in Bradan's book... it has proven to be less of a mod then most think. If you really want to increase throttle response measurably go with a lightened flywheel, crank pully, or some other rotational lightening.

your suggestions aren't necessary. I had never heard of this and myself thought of it as stupid because the increase in fuel is unmeasured and just not the most optimal sounding thing to do. Just wanted to know if other ae86 owners out there actually have done this.

That's just partial. There's 4 more steps before that....

BTW I almost did it.
