It is alot easier to take the engine/transaxle combo out as a unit. The halfshafts will need to come out, but not completely. You will have to disconnect the ball joints and the tie rod ends. Then you can just pull the axles out of the tranny while leaving them attached to the wheel hubs. The ball joint attaches to the lower control arm with three small bolts (IIRC), so no pickle fork or puller is necessary. You will, however, need to use a tie rod end separator for the tie rods. I have heard of people getting the shafts out without taking apart the tie rods, but I have never tried it. Once all of the plastic covers are removed from the lower engine bay, most of the engine parts are really easy to remove. There are 4 mounting points...don't forget the center engine/trans mount that goes into the crossmember. The bolts securing it are hidden under a plastic cover and are easily overlooked. The 4A-FE in the '90 Prism that I used to own was one of the easiest that I have ever changed. Regards, Aaron

just unbolt the 2 bolts for the strut, then the bolt for the control arm and you can get the axle out.... i'm pretty sure that's all i had to do to get the axles out

just remember that there's a 5th mount on the underside of the crossmember
