Australia Lost Dash/Tail lights with new stereo.

I just installed my Pioneer DEH 3550 stereo today in my 1992 AE92 Corolla CS Hatchback in the place of the factory Fujitsu-Ten cassette deck. Now there were four wires which ran into the back of the deck which I couldnt trace back or figure out what they did before I put the new deck in, so I went ahead and thought they would be redundant.

Upon the installation of my new deck, the dash lights, the rear tail lights and the front park lights do not work. I was wondering if anyone knew if those 4 wires require the factory deck to operate these lights, and if so - what do I need to do to get the lights working again with the new deck?

Also on a side note, I was wondering how hard it is to fix a powersteering oil leak from the 'boots'. The mechanic pointed this out to me when I had the clutch replaced and I'm guessing they're going to charge an arm and a leg to get it replaced.

I figured that there was a black and white wire which provided the Illumination and ran into the larger connector (the large connector handled the power, acc and speakers). IIRC there's two purple wires and two green wires which had their own connector to the back of the factory deck.

I did not hook up the Illumination wire to my new deck as it does not support this function.

Edit: Purple, not orange.

take the ground from the stereo, disconnect it from whatever ground your currently using, and ground it to the frame of the car, and replace the 15amp fuse in your kick panel.

I got the tail/park lights back on, it turns out that I'd wired the stereo up wrong and when the lights are turned on the stereo will go off and blow a fuse. I ended up getting a Hayne's manual, but still havent managed to restore lights to the dash (with the stereo fixed, and all fuses checked/replaced).

I initially couldn't find the fuse box because the Haynes book says that its behind the left kick panel. After removing all the trim and tearing a sound dampening pad I realised that the book is written for an american (left hand drive) car, so left means right...

Any Ideas as to why the dash lights still arent coming on?

Just wanted to thank "hopefully" for this post. The same thing happened to me today, and without it I still wouldn't have lights or a stereo.
