hello i was wondering how many poeple have car alarms on their corolla?

as well do u think car alarms are a necessary thing to have, or are they more of just a noise maker that serves no purpose?

nice to have, if it's better than a low level alarm. one with a pager(there's a Viper unit that has a two-way pager) is generally a LOT better than the stock unit, or something of equal value.

For your information, your Corolla S is equipped with an electrical immobilizer so it already has a security system installed, but it would kick in only when the driver tries to start the car with a fake key and does not protect against vandalism. In Addition, I have a very nice security system installed by Toyota on my XRS and since my parking lot is open ( or even shopping mall parking lots), I have seen from a distance a few times people peaking (even couples sometime) in the car from window using putting their right hands on their forehead. If they keep their hands on the window for too long, my alarm goes off. Even kicking the tire will result in the alarm going off. I personally find it worth ever penny for my peace of mind so I would highly recommend it.

If you don't like the sound of alarms, at least get a keyless entry system with an engine immobilizer. I mean - theives can break into your car but at least they can't drive away with it.

It's a nice thing to have. Personally I hate the alarm remote that came with my '04 corolla because of the panic button on it. ( I have times when I press it by accident, pisses me off.) I am going to replace mine later on with the paging system and remote starter.
I actually had to get one installed on my old '93 corsica because someone broke my windshield wiper twice, so I was geting tired of paying $90 bucks to get it fixed.
