Hi all,
First off, I am officially a Corolla owner (an 02 Corolla CE Plus) as of last week, and am very excited. However, one thing I failed to notice when I bought the car was that here are no rear speakers in it. First of all, is this normal? Second of all, how tough would it be to install speakers myself?
Sorry if this has been covered somewhere else.
Thanks!
Ben
I woudlnt be terribly suprised. I've got an AE92 (1992) which didnt have any rear speakers, and the factory deck didnt support more than 2 speakers.
If you've got a set of screwdrivers (and maybe sockets) you should have too much trouble getting some wiring along the sill at the edge of the car up to the back shelf. I've done this on a number of cars (RCA leads, 8G wiring, remote wires, speaker wiring) and you'd be suprised that it was there since it all fits in nicely, though with the newer model cars getting the dash off to get to the deck could be a problem as they're gradually becoming a 1 piece dash...
You have to take out the child seat anchors ( peel back plastic cover on them to reveal mounting bolt and remove bolt) There should also be plastic clips that need pushed out to release back deck cover. If your seats do not fold, you will need to remove lower seat cushion to reveal mounting screws for seat back. The wiring plugs are near each speaker opening and the speaker size will be 6.5"
I know... I couldn't believe when I got home and there were no rear speakers. I mean, when I had been test driving the car I had the stereo off so I could hear any strangeness with engine, brakes, etc. I never really thought about it.
So then I'm adjusting the 'fader' and send it to the rear and all I get is silence. Pop the trunk and sure enough - no speakers. The holes are there on the trunk side, but not cut through on the rear deck, although there's an outline of where they could be cut.
I love the car so far but this was a pretty big disappointment; I would NEVER want to take a friend who had to sit in the back on a road trip!
Thanks for all the advice, BTW; I'll likely buy some speakers and get them installed professionally, as I'm a bit of a klutz and don't want to screw up the mediocre factory CD player.
I have 4 speakers up front on my car..
If you want bass, just add a subwoofer.
But seriously, Id rahter upgrade the front ones than stick some speakers in the back.
