Question New corolla owner, need help w/center stack

Hi all,
I'm the new owner of an inherited AE102 and I just installed a new CD head unit today.
Everything went well, except that I can't reinstall the center trim piece that houses the air vents, head unit, and hvac levers.

I did an exhaustive search in the forums and didn't find similar issues.
Specifically, the panel will not sit flush top-to-bottom.
I can click the trim into place in either the top or bottom but not both top and bottom.
The A/C button module in the bottom left corner also doesn't sit deep enough to work.

Anyone know what's going on?
I purchased the head unit from Crutchfield and the fit seems perfect and I followed their "master sheet" to the letter.
I'd like to hear from you folks on what may be the problem.
TIA.

I really don't know. I've taken my HVAC panel off dozens of times and it's fit right back on fine. If it's not the new head unit I really can't suggest anything. All I can say is make sure that the wires leading to the A/C, hazard, defrost buttons, and the clock are not bunching up there. Also the A/C button can fall out kinda so just push it in.

Thanks for the input. Yeah, the A/C module fell out and I had to fish it out from under the driver's seat. If it is supposed to fit right in I'll have to redo the install to figure out the problem.

So which one of those guys are you? The one with the Monte Carlo, F150 or Pontiac?

Yeah! I got the trim panel to fit perfectly. I feel like I have a whole new car with the fancy head unit. Surprisingly, the stock speakers sound pretty damn good, as a matter fact good enough that I'm not going to install the new speakers I purchased with the head unit until next year.
I stripped the two ostensibly flush aluminum clips (behind the factory brackets) off the receiver and that solved the problem instantly. Duh.

Well, I thought I was done but after driving around tonight I realized that I've got one last problem you guys may be able to help me with:

<The light behind the HVAC icon panel is out.>

Could I have damaged it in any way? Everything else works perfectly (A/C module, digital clock, hazards, and rear window defroster. Where is the bulb located behind the air controls? Type/part number? DIY install info? Thanks.

I really don't know where the bulbs are specifically for the HVAC portion of the panel, so sorry. But glad to hear you got the h/u in.

Btw, careful with the stock speakers, I just blew one with my stock h/u a few weeks ago. Gotta wait till spring to get new ones.
