XRS Dash

Hi everyone,

I bought a new XRS yesterday and am loving it! Does anyone have any clues as to how to pull the stock H/U out? I have an XM radio I want to hook up to it (probably going to have to FM modulate it because I don't think the indash 6 cd can controll a changer which it needs to be able to do to use the aux-in adapters). The whole dash seems like it is one piece. This car is so much different than my monte carlo, that thing was cheaply constructed and you could open up the dash in seconds. Ive only had it one day but I think the sales guy was right when he said once you buy a toyota you'll never buy anything else.

Get a Haynes Repair Manual from your local library, or buy it.

It is #1 for taking apart body panels and fixing stuff.

Edit: Actually, I don't know if they make one for the new Corollas yet. They should.

Anyway welcome to TN.

According to Toyota Canada, you're supposed to be able to pull the dash panels off by hand.
Now someone ought to tell the dealer service personnel that because they're all being lazy and using screwdrivers and putty blades. I've had my dash apart twice at the dealer and each time I found the tool they used in my back seat.

well, since i work next to a circuit city I decided to bite the bullet and go over there to see how much they would charge to put in my XM radio and some nice infinity 6x9s I had from my old car in the back to replace that paper garbage. I am afraid to touch anything in this car, there is sensor that and sensor this everywhere. This way if they broke something they pay to fix it, if I break something it would be me paying $100/oz for plastic dash parts.

he quoted me $50 for the radio and $35 for the speakers. I thought it was a good deal on the radio and a rip off on the speakers, but I guess that evens out. When the guy comes out to my car he's like "i forgot how to take the radio out of these" needless to say I wasn't too thrilled with him saying that. But, he started to pull on the piece that has the two vents on the sides of the radio and it came out. I had him put the controller for the face in the little sunglasses tray in the center stack. its pretty cool, I can set what I want and then close it, I was afraid I'd have to ruin the great look of the dash.

does anyone know what the impedance ratings of the speakers in the doors are? I'm hoping they are 4ohm, but I doubt the radio has 6 channels so they probably are 6ohm or maybe even 8. I'm sure the 6.5"s are made of the same paper garbage that the 6x9s were. I'd like to keep the stock tweeters though, I don't want to be cutting up the doors.

As far as I know there is no Haynes manual for the car yet, the last one they have covers up to the 2002 body. There may be a toyota service manual out though. I'll have to check the library. No way I am going to be spending $180 or more on a factory shop manual when the car is still brand new and under warranty for a long time. Hell, I got free oil changes for life thrown in with the car and am loving the fact I won't be fixing it every month like I was with my previous GM product.
