the remote dealer has to chop up one of my keys for the starter thing

i want to get a new key made by toyota for my car, the keys are those new special chip keys u can make on your own

does anyone know if its hard for the dealer to get another key for my car, any idea how much it would cost to get a new key made?

Its not hard for them to get it, they just have to order one....it's the pricetag you may have to worry about.....remember it IS a car dealer and they overcharge for EVERYTHING...not sure on how much it would cost....prolly around $50US but that's a big guess...I am prolly WAYYYYY off.....

If they are going to permanently implant the transponder in your car you probably will not need the fancy type keys anymore to start the car as you will have effectively bypassed that security feature. Once you get the starter installed I would go to a locksmith and have them make you a copy of your transponder key on a regular blank, try to start your car, I'm betting that it will work.

My XRS came with 3 keys. One went under the dashboard for the remote starter and now I have two others that I use. Didn't you get 3 keys??

Not sure about the brand. I will check it tonight. I got it installed through Toyota and they got Visions Electronics (Canada) to put it on. It is probably top of the line one with a little screen on the remote control ( the second remote is a simple one). It sends two way signals of command and acknowledgment. Once I arm the security system, it sends the command and then pages back by beeping in the remote control and the lights of the little Celica in remote screen flash. It is a very nice feature since I know if I accidently pressed the unlock/disarm key and would arm the car back again.

Koss, go to the dealer and get them to make you a duplicate. It'll cost you about $100 cdn. That's the price you pay for convenience and security.

GL!
