Well, technically, it's the nut I stripped ... one of the 4 off the fan/water-pump. If no one tells me any different, I'm going to dremel that sucker off (as soon as I borrow a dremel .

On a side note, I unbolted the powersteering bracket and couldn't catch all the fluid. Some got on the driveway. Any danger?

a Nut splitter would be the best tool for the job, less damage to surrounding materials.

Wow, after finally tracking down a dremel and realizing the cutting bit doesn't allow the angle to get in that tight spot, I used the grinding bit and ground it to a tiny nub then chissled it off with a screw-driver and a mallet.

Dropped in the cams, tightened down the bearing caps, installed the oil seals (which was hard without the STS - a lot harder then I thought). Bolted on the cam gears, installed the sparkplugs and valve covers. I believe the car has not run in almost a year in my possession and probably just as long in the previous owners possession so I had doubts as to whether the valve may have been rusted shut or not. Well, a quick turn on the cam gears showed that they were just fine.

PS. I'm going to use this thread to fill you in on the progress of the car unless someone tells me it's a bad idea.

Got a little further on the car today. The bolt for the crank pulley finally budge so tomorrow I'm going to borrow that harmonic pulley balance (thanks for the tip from a previous thread nick). I bolted the intake manifold back in there and installed the gaskets. Managed to break a rusted pipe ... hopefully it's just a vacuum line and not for fluid ... but it brings to my attention of removing all the old hoses and replacing new ones which is going to happen after everything else is put back together and the motor is running again ... will probably get new hose clamps as well.

YA, what you said! It's one of the 2 that feeds into the bottom of I think the throttle body. I'm so tired right now I can't remember. Either way, I'm not TOO concerned about it except a lot of the that piping is pretty sft too. might need to replace that whole bit just for safety.

Oh. it's not broken at the TB. y'know how they have these pipes welded together somein sets of 2 some in sets of 3, some in more ... well it's off one of these things. It's not a small one either ... maybe like a 10mm. That's why I suspect it may be more then just air going thru.

(If I sound funny it's because I've been up all night, went for a jog this morning and just took a 30 min powernap so I can finish all my work when my girl gets off early at 4 today to hit the driving range and spend a good evening with her cuz she's complaining we don't spend enough time together).

haha.. that's cool..

if its one of those two big ones that come out of the bottom of the TB, I know at lest one of them is for coolant.. I would think the other one is too, but i'm not sure..

when i was taking the hoses off those two, coolant came out of one of them..

I"m pretty sure it's coolant since all the ones with running air pressure thru have zero rust. i'm guessing some moisture got caught in there and just ate away at it ...

Update on Progress

So anyway, I got about 80% of the stuff bolted back together with new gaskets n'stuff. Still have to get some new bolts here and there. And eventually will have to replace every hose in there cuz I just don't trust them. Hopefully when I trouble shoot in about 2 weeks, I won't run into too many problems.
