AE92 4-door Sedan Headlight Conversion: Suggestions needed
AE92 (4afe, 4-door) owners are troubled by the terrible beam pattern of the 9004 headlights.
After years of search, I found nothing. Some suggested transplanting JDM H4 headlights along with the grill. My concern is that the H4 beam pattern in a right-hand side driving country like Japan will cause some glare to the oncoming cars in a left-hand side driving country like Taiwan.
I was just staring at the pictures of the JDM h4 headlights. An idea popped up:

This reminds me of the common rectangular "euro" styles headlights which come with some common sizes.
My tentative plans are
1. Swap the headlights (only the light part, not the whole assy), IF they are swappable (left to right and right to left)
2. IF the light part is separable, I wonder if the Euro style rectangular model fits.
I know that there are successful cases of "JDM-ized look" conversion. But I'm more concerned about road safety. It is not difficult to do this cosmetic change, but what i need most is decent beam, good for myself and not harmful to others.
If my plans can only be dreams at best, do hesitate to frustrate me.
well i converted the headlights on my 92 sedan to Levin headlights with the H4s, also those you posted looked like the chaser front conversion (i beleive it was a chaser anyways)
Those wagon (the so called "JDM") headlights are actually worse. The 9004 is fairly close to the european H4 as is, albeit I think the wattage is slightly lower, otherwise its compatible.
please look at this http://www.cardomain.com/id/superae92
The second photo from the top on the left column. You can see the difference.
I'm so longing for h4 headlight not because it's the best (a well-made projector with HID far surpasses it), but because its much better than 9004. (Please see http://20v.org/light.htm#euro for the comparison of the beam patterns). High-wattage bulbs for H4 are much more available and more durable.
but i doubt you wanna do the work i've put into this swap.... S13 tri-beam (non projector fog light), Koyo H3C "superwhite" bulbs (as fast and the furious as this sounds) straight from japan.... the bulbs alone were another $50

White filament bulbs arent really white. They just filter the yellow light out, by using a filter which actually decreases light output. Get some 100/130W bulbs, those wont be "white" in output color, but you'd see far, because the output rate (candela) is higher than 55/60W bulbs. Those "white" bulbs are horrible.
Overboost.com had a test of them, check it out if it still exists.

Thanks a lot
this i believe is the same headlight you're talking about... and the owner is from the Philippines so their also LHD.

Right, but those were never native to the philippines and the headlights arent from a LHD car, but rather an RHD car, but since lighting laws in the philippines are VERY LAX, having RHD headlights isnt a problem. Those front mods are generally from front cuts imported from japan.
On another note, the light output from those lights is really poor compared to the stock AE92 headlight. Those are sealed beam headlights in most cases.

I once had an AE92 and the JDM lights from Japan are perfect. It's clearer than the stock one. Although I had to admit, Flashmn is right, it's very LAX.
Did you ever notice if the lights could be taken out, and swapped with each other?
From the yahoo.japan picture, it seems that the bolt is placed in the center, which means it might be able to be mounted on the other side after swapping.
I'm just guessing...
Don't bother to answer if you did not ever take notice of that.
