This is a photoshopped pic of my cam with foglights. I ended up adding some real ones after this pic was taken, and there in the present place.. (look at my sig) pretty much below the headlights.

Switches were mounted in an empty DIN below the head unit.

what is easiest to do on a 94, hook up a new switch, or hook it up to the parking lights? if i were to hook them up to the parking lights, where would the easiest place be to splice into the wires. please show pics if you have them.

use a new switch. I'm gonna be doing this project today in my 93. The switch you oughta get is 00550-35946 (or 00550-42966) which is a back-lit OEM toyota switch that you can mount in one of the knockouts by the e-brake.

due to considerations with cali vehicle code I'm gonna make it so it will turn off when the high beams go on and turn back on when they high beams are off.

currently the design should allow for the foglights to be on only when the parking lights are on, actual usage like this may not be legit unless the headlights are on. you can consider tapping either the R-Y or R wires (post fuse headlight common positives) instead of the parking lights, doing so ought to insure that the fogs can only be on when the headlights are on.

CORRECTION, THAT SHOULD BE 00550-35976 OEM

if you want easy, run a wire directly from the battery positive, into a fuse, into the switch and then back out to the foglamps, and ground the foglamps to a bolt or nut by where they are mounted. if the switch needs to be grounded (like if there is a little light bulb inside it), ground it in the dash.

if you run the foglamps directly off the parking lights you could possibly fry your electrical wiring - not the wires you just installed - but the engine harness.

the reason for the complexity is that the foglamps use a lot of power and the electrical wiring inside the car may not be thick enough to handle all the extra load and may start to get hot like the filament in an electric heater.

if you would like to have them controlled from the parking lamps you need to use an automotive relay. You can power the relay off a tap from the parking lights, but you still need to get power off the battery plus.

-or-

get a foglight installation kit, most of this stuff should be in it already.

good luck!

Fog lights are fine if their aligned right and make driving at night much more safer...Some places have laws stating that if you have fog lights you must run them at night...The vehicles you should play chicken with are SUV's with HID's, because their higher then regular autos their lights blind you directly with their glare and tint.... .....Raddman

Makes it worse actually, because all the light is concentrated at a wide are very close to your bumper, night time that light will prevent you from seeing things clearly at a distance. Basic lighting stuff, you dont see rally cars driving around with foglights in night time races, they have big ass drivinglights.
