Well I've started fixing up my good AE86 last nigh pulling a few parts from my bad AE86. I put the Toyota badge back on the front of the car because it was missing. I later knowtice that part of the air intake was missing as well. It was the plastic tube that extended over the fan. So I took that and the bracket from the other car. I have to do a quick sanding job on the bracket and paited it. I still need to get a walsher to help hold it on better thoe. I pulled off all the toyota caps on the wheels so I can repaint them at a later date. I also swaped over 2 wheels/tires from the other car. I took the floor mats for the back seats and passenger front seat. I swaped the pieces that hold thing that holds your hood up. I took off the drivers side fender cuz it is damn near mint. I did a quick sanding job and painted it. I swaped the drivers seat. But I may have to take some of the guts out of the other one because the sides arn't working. I also need to swap the back of the drivers seat.
After tis I decided it was time to go to the bar.
Work that still needs to get done other than the front seat is that I may need to replace the passenger side bracket for the front bumper. Of corse I need some body work as well. I'm waiting for my Apex sideskirt replicas and am trying to get my hands on a OEM spoiler. I also need to readjust the rear nossle for the hatch window. I noticed the other day that the engine hot/cold gadge is not working. The clutch seems to be going too.
Now on to the engine. The engine is starting to piss me off. My other GT-S could smoke my new one in a drag race any day of the week. It seems slow/slugish. It loses it's balls in 4th. I took it in for a tune up hopeing that this will fix that. Aparently all the wires are fried. So new ones are ordered for $200!?! Damn Toyota/Honda long tip wires! Also the spark plugs were dead. The idle speed is high by up to 500RPM at times. The guy I was talking to said the the fule injection system might be cloged as well. I get the car back tomorrow. So if the engine still pisses me off I'm putting my small port 4AGE blue top in.

Also, dump a whole bunch of throttle body cleaner into your intake... after this take a bottle of auto trans fluid and put it in a vaccum line that goes into the intake manifold. The cleaning abilities of auto trans fluid will clean the insides of your engine.

be carefull when spraying the TB cleaner in the TB. To get optimum cleansing, you are to spray it while the engine is running, but because of the afm and the vacum created in the intake piping, this can't be done.
so do what jover said, take the intake tubing off, open up the butterfly and spray a sh*tload of tb cleaner in it; re-attach the piping and start her up. open the butterly up once in a while to get the cleaner through. note: you can get falmes shooting out either the exhaust or more commonly the opening of the tb, so just be carefull.
secondly, pull all your injectors and let them soak in injector cleaner overnight. While your at it, change the o-rings and rubber bushing on it as they crack frequently...esspecially after 15years. Should cost like $14 for all the stuff at a toyo dealer.
Change your fuel filter if it hasn't been done. and pour some injector cleaner in the tank to flush out the system.
idle should be 800rpm at 10 degrees adv. with the rpms shorted.
As for plugs, don't go with any of theose bosch platinums or ngk platinum. in my mind, just a wste of money. Iridium plugs are actually the best, but they come at a hefty price. call the toyota dealer ship and ask them whats the heat rating on oem ae86 plugs. once you got that heat rating, goto crappy tire and find it.
As per usuall, flush all your fluids...coolant, power steering (although power steering fluid rarely goes bad or even depletes), clutch, brakes, oil and transmision (which reminds me, i have to do mine).
by the way...there is NO small port blue top...unless you changed valve covers
bluetop = big port, tvis, standard block (ae86 and na aw11)
redtop = big port, tvis, standard block (1988 - 1989 ae92)note: apparently there are redtops with a reiforced block, oil squirters and oil return however still using tvis and the 9.5:1 pistons
redtop = small port, non tvis, 7 rib reinforced block, oil return and oil squirters (1990 - 1991 ae92)
you said the "wires were fried" and you also needed new spark plug wires.. which wires were you referring to in the first instance??
also, right before I sold you the car I did the throttle body cleaner spray thing.. but of course you can do it again if you like.. i also recently dumped a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank, maybe a couple weeks before you got the car.. although nick's method seems like it would be more effective..
also, riddle me this, what rpm's are you shifting at when you say it "loses its balls"?
$350 latter I finally got some speed out of it. I had platnum spark plugs put in. The filters were shot to **** so those are all new now. The engine got a full tune up.
Randy, did you or Sam ever tune this thing up? The guys at the shop said most of the wires and crap were factoy or at least had a few years on them. Oh well the engine should be good for about 5 years now. Of course I'll still have to change the filters and oil now and then.
I'm quoted at $1,500 for the body work I'm getting done. They figure it will be 20hours of labour. But this does not include the skirts and spoiler I want on. But on the plus side I'm paying what the dealers pay.

dude, get Magnecor wires, they're half the price of the Toyota wires. If you wanna go a lil more ghetto, get the NGK wires.
Here is what it has on my bill.
4 custom NGK-R Plugs $16.00
1 custom Wires $82.54 (They said they had long tips or somthing.)
1 custom Rotor $8.53
1 custom fule filter $15.76
1.2 labour Tune Up (Major) $87.46
0.3 labour Replace fule filter $21.86
0.3 labour Clean Throttle body $21.86
1 custom CAP $32.54
1 A33579 Air Filter $51.99
well, i've only been doing oil and all the filters. i do the oil every 3 to 4 g's and the plugs should be newly installed last march, as well as the air filter...
Well I don't know then. They showed me them and they were indeed in rough shape. I even had 2 other mechanics look at it and they said the same thing. So every thing I had done needed to be done.
