car knocking, runs better cold

When i put my 89 corolla sr5 into park it reves high, like 1.5-2k, and when i turn it off that high my car knocks, any suggestions?

if it has a carb, the throttle plates are opened too far at idle

Gotta love carbed cars.. find the idle screw and turn it down a bit. Most carbed cars have the screw behind the carb cover by the back of the carb itself.

be shure the choke flap in the top is vertical when you adjust the idle

when i gas it quickly in it revs lower and thewn i can put in in park and turn it off no problem

when i rebuild the carb a while ago i noticed the choke didnt close all the way smoothly, got slightly stuck at about 90% closed
