Just purchased a 2003 Corolla S in Indigo.

After driving it for about 700 miles a rattling/squeaking noise appeared. It seems like it's coming from the underneath the center dashboard. The rattling gets even louder when going over uneven or bumpy roads.

I've taken it the dealer, and they thought they fixed it but as soon as I drove off the lot, it was there again.

Does anyone know what the problem is? Also, anybody have any suggestions besides going back to the incompetent dealership.

Thanks

If its from under the dash board, it may be a wiring harness. If you have an aftermarket alarm system, that may be it. In any case, you may want to take off the under belly of the dash, usually held by a few screws, and inspect for anything loose. If you found anything, zip tie it or wrap it with foam.

Please specify if a rattle or a squeak and I may be able to help you.

I've just checked the work order that the dealership gave me and it states that they secured the wire harness. If that actually happend is another question.

The sound is more of a rattling sound.

Thanks

OK, It could be the heat shield rattling against the floor right underneath the center console. Quick fix: Put the car up on a lift and carefully bend the upper edges away from the floor. We have encountered this minor problem on some Corollas and Camrys (I work for a Toyota dealer and sell new cars). If this doesn't do it I will take it up with my most trusted and eccentric mechanic(The rattle Man) and propose something else for you.

Check to see if it is the clear plastic thing at the instrument gauge squeaking. To test if it is squeaking, simply just use your finger to press it.

My moms 2002 Corolla LE does this at the gauges but I haven't tried to fix it yet what do you do? The press test does make it squeak but it only does it once in a while while driving it was much worse when she first bought it 6 months ago.

I have a '03 Corolla S, it's the impulse red. I had the same problem and I took it to the dearler ship also. They said it was missing a piece from the front driver side strut. The discription on the invoice says "defective left front strut mount" and the description of the part is "support sub assy," . It took them a couple of hours to do it but afterwards the rattling was gone you might want to give it a try I mean it's brand new

I'm going to take the car in next week. I'll propose these fixes to them.

Thanks all!
