my ae86 engine lost all power

first, its an SR5, i know its got no power. Well, now its got even less power than before. (feels like 30hp) What could be the possibilities?

i already did a full tuneup exept anything with pumps, lines and gaskets. I got 2 things in mind 1) the engine is so old the compression is gone (ie. 180,000 and when i shut engine down it spasms for about 3-4 seconds while i hit the gas untill it dies...it starts good) 2) Fuel pump, carburator or ignition problem 3) Manual says EGS or vacuum lines...wt* is this? 4) Blown head gasket which is making me loose compression

I know there's some very well informed people in here

its my drifting dream, i got for $100 and i can't even chirp tires off first gear...exept when its raining like right now ...i am considering 4age swap but no $$ right now, i just put about $800 into my acura TL

when it is running how is it running? Is it running really rough or normally at idle? If it seems like it barely wants to run at idle and runs really rough you have a vacuum leak somewhere. A vacuum leak can cause what you are describing, it lets more air into the intake than fuel has been metered for by the carb. If the engine will run on its own for a little after you turn off the ignition I would guess you have a pretty good sized vacuum leak. Check all your hoses, if you have power brakes your brake booster could be shot and that is where your vacuum leak is. If you can plug up all the vacuum lines going into the intake I would try that and see how it runs that way.

Do a blue or redtop 4AG motorswap. It's the only way to go.

VIRTUALSKULZ: sweet info, i tried identifying the vacuum lines but couln't i'll give it another try tomorow. What you say about more air into the carb is happening alright. The engine doesnt idle, it plays between 1000 and 2000 very inpatiently. I dont know what a brake booster is but i'll find out

FREDK: i got no idea what an EGR valve is

EJ86: tell you what, pay for half of it and i'll make it happen!

THANKS!! i've been fiberglassing all the missing chunks from rust all day...this is one ugly peace of junk, but i love it!

The brake booster is going to be right infront of where the driver sits on the firewall. The plastic reservoir that holds the brake fluid is going to be near it and connected to it. It is going to be kinda large and it's usually round. vacuum hoses are usually never more than about an inch or an inch and a half thick. They look like coolant hoses but instead of running to the radiator, they either run to the intake or run to a rubber ball like thing called the vacuum canister which has a line running to the intake.

If your idle is erratic I would place all blame on a vacuum leak somewhere. I am not familiar with your engine, but a long time ago I had an intake gasket go bad on a dodge 3.0L engine that caused a vacuum leak. It could be gaskets as well.

i'm working on what ma man VIRTUAL SKULZ says. here's a pic of the engine lemmi know if you want more detailed pics of which parts. the pic was taken before i bought the car but it looked like that this morning. i'm working on it right now...really thinking on a new fuel pump too.

http://www.acurainspired.com/gallery...1520&pid=34087

Oh btw, i looked on the manual for this car, and under the many sections with similar problems, 3 things were almost consistent. 1) Incorrect Timing, 2) EGR problem and 3) vacuum leak.

since it has a carb, get it warmed up and idling, put your hand over the carbs intake and choke off some of the air, if it speeds up, its got a vacuum leak, if it chokes down, its something else like maybe a blocked up cat converter?
