Changing Air Filter..

1990 Corolla here,

This is gonna b my first car replacement ever. I plan on replacing my AIR FILTER!...

I have the Haynes Repair Manual, n referred to it. I'm just not sure how to lift the lid off since it has clips. What tools do i need.

I know that once i open the lid all i gotta do is take out the old filter, clean up the sides n stuff as much as i can, n put in the new one.Am i on the right track?

Haynes should tell you how the clips come off. In my 95 its just simple, no tools required. My bet is it's the same with your car. Open the hood and look.

Ukrainian's right, it should be simple. Just some clips you can pop off with your fingers, or at the most with a flathead screwdriver. Shouldn't be hard to figure out.

it's just a matter of popping off 2-4 clips.. moving the box out of the way.. take out the old air filter .. put in the new one and reverse!

On some models you have to unscrew a center butterfly screw or something similar aside from pop the clips on the sides off. It shouldn't take 10 minutes to do, unless you got the wrong air filter.

K&N is quality, probably your best bet.

I bet it doesn't matter, but I would just put the new filter in the same way the old one was in.

Meh. I would just go with OEM filters if that's your only upgrade. There are problems if aftermarket filters aren't oiled right, and it can damage sensors, so be sure you know what you're doing.

Anyway, as I said, if you have nothing done to your engine a K&N won't be better than stock.

I put a K&N filter on my MR2 as my first mod. It didn't really do a whole lot performance-wise, but it sounded better. Not sure if it would do the same on your 'rolla, but it couldn't hurt. It should at least help a little with gas mileage.

if you go K&N dump the stock air box and go for a real CAI with a cone it really wont add a noticeable amount of performance but it flows better than a K&N pannel in the stock air box, that and it sounds cool when you rev
