94 corolla gauge face

hey i wanted to know, if my corolla doesn't have a factory tachometer can i get a gauge face from one that has one and put it in mine. would my model have the proper electronics infrastructure to accomodate a gauge face with a tachometer? same questions for cruise control?

As long as you can find a new gauge cluster, I think you could replace the cluster, and it might already have a plug for it.... Talk to Ukrainian102 about it, he did it. I think he had a plug for it already.... If you don't have a plug, you could put in an aftermarket tach like I did, either search for the thread, or let me know and I'll find it where I explained how to install an aftermarket tach. Good luck.

I did this same swap on my '90 DX, and it was plug-and-play. I am pretty sure that if you can find an instrument cluster with a tach, you can simply swap it into your car. No wiring changes necessary. I personally think that all Corollas are wired for the tach, but I have heard conflicting reports on this. Some say that only the DX and LE models have the wire for the tach already in the car's wiring harness, others say all models are wired for it. There is only one wire for the tach, and it comes from the ignition coil. If this wire is not present on your car (but I am pretty sure it is), then you could easily run one yourself or have a shop do it.

The trick is going to be to find a guage cluster with a tach. This swap is one of the first things alot of new Corolla owners do, and these clusters tend to be at a premium. I got mine on Ebay for about $35, and I also see the clusters for the '93-'97 models there occasionally. They are usually around $50-$100, but you may be able to get one at your local wrecking yard. Good luck! Regards, Aaron
