New Member With Questions

i own a 1987 corolla sport gts and it has the stock 4A-GE motor. i've heard that an SR20DET would fit but the swap would be complicated and difficult, not to mention expensive. however, i've also heard that a CA18DET would fit too, and the swap wouldn't be nearly as complicated. my car is basically stock; a little beat up from previous owners. without putting too much money into it (after the maybe-to-be engine swap, no more than $3,000), i want to squeeze out a little bit more power.. something considerable for $3,000 or less. the car will be a daily driver. any tips or suggestions would be greatly appriciated.
thanx

now i drive a AE86 and i know how u feel about swapin motor in it... 4A-GE is good for the car but its always better with a nice swap.....

iv seen SR20DET, S2000, Supra, and MR2 motor fix into a trueno b4... and i thought about doin it.... iv only got the pricing on the S2000 motor and it came up to like 4000 (motor, trany, ecu, and etc.) but try n ask the owner of the store..

With $3,000 that little more power would be a failed bargain. I could get a newer car for that price. And it could be much faster too. Just helping. Goodluck.

karugs is correct.

Why did you guys buy an ae86 for if all you're planning to do is swap the engine? A big part of the ae86, which so many enthusiast's enjoy about the car is the high revving, easy to work on, bluetop motor.

cowboy: That motor is not a straight drop into the ae86 chassis. You'll need some fabrication work done to it whichever motor sr or ca you choose. $3000 is not going to cut it, unless you're planning to do all the work and fabrication yourself.

ah, i know karugs is right.. i live in guam, and things aren't as very readily available as they are in many other places. for $3,000 you can buy a car with no motor, no tranny, broken everything, and a spare tire. thing's cost too much here, especially cars. one thing that pulled me to the ae86 was the fact that the term " a dime a dozen" doesn't apply to the car here, as there are ONLY about a dozen. i DO like the high rev of the motor, but c'mon now, doesn't everybody want a little bit more power? and yes, popping in some new parts here and there might give me a bump up with the power, but i plan on owning this car for quite a while. several years, at least. i want to play with it as much as i can and restore it back to the condition it as almost 17 years ago, plus some. i haven't been on the car scene for too long, and i thought that this would be a great place to find some useful tips.. and yes i realize i write a lot. the car is running a little bit rich... not big clouds of smoke, but you can smell the gas from the exhaust pretty far away. any ideas what that might be? still haven't had a whole lot of time to check everything out on the car. the engine doesn't appear to have any serious issues that needs to be dealt with immediatley.
