Its giving me trouble code 14: Ingition signal -- igniter circuit, igniter, or ECU, according to the book. So I figured I would just get a salvage distributor for $75 and try it. Trouble is, the closest one is 2 hours away, and my car is an hour the other direction in the middle of nowhere. I'm just not totally convinced. I should have checked the pickup coil before I left it, but it was dark and cold, and I couldn't turn down what might have been the only ride all night.
It has been getting progressively worse on this trip from ND to CO. In ND, when it was cold, the idle would act very strange driving around town -- drop low, rev up, drop low, rev up... Always started and ran great when it was in gear though; and it even idled normally on the drive from ND. Then when I was going up a hill here, it died randomly and popped back to life. Later, it died twice at a stop sign at the bottom of a big hill, but started and ran fine. No problems for a few more days, then coming down the back side of a pass in gear with the throttle closed, it would hardly stay running. It usually popped back to life though since it was in gear, and ran fine with the throttle open. Two nights ago, it died on a flat road, 3000rpm (not when I thought it would) and it wouldn't pop back to life. It wouldn't start until 10 minutes later, but ran fine for another few hours. Last night, it did the same thing, only after the ten minutes it would start but only run for a few minutes or less -- even keeping it fully reved up.
Please help -- I'm new to fuel injection/ECU etc. Thank you!
