XRS Rear Seats

For those of you who own one, is it true the rear seats do not fold back at all due to chassis bracing?

The 05 XRS was going to be my next car when Im finished university but if the rear seats dont fold down its pretty inconvinient for a daily driver. I make lots of snowboarding trips etc and need the space length wise...are there plans to have the seats fold back in future models or am I stuck getting a roof cargo holder?

Also how big is the trunk?

if you are going to take trips for snowboarding and other stuff why not invest in a roof rack?

it will allow you to store all your sporting goods on top of the car and still allow you to utilize the trunk for other stuff as well.

it's not cheap mind you, but its a good investment for a car.

XRS seats do not fold down - there's a cross beam in there to give the chassis additional rigidity.

However, slap on a Toyota OEM hitch and you can add a bike adapter or ski adapter.
That's my solution!! to limited trunk room.

Otherwise, you may as well head out for a Matrix XRS.

Yes, no 60/40 split because of the rear suspension strut bar and chasis rigidity. The back seat is a fixed lighter weight bench in order to keep the weight low of the car. This also dramatically reduces nose lift and pressing of the rear suspension upon hard acceleration. In short, lesser weight transfer to the rear wheels, which allows the low end torque to be utilized more effectively. Matrix XRS does not have a sport tuned suspension and they have a lot more space to haul luggage. The downside is Matrix XRS weighs 200 pounds more than the Corolla XRS. If you ask me, Corolla XRS is too damn sweet a deal to pass up for just this reason.

I went to a local Toyota Dealership here in Ottawa (Tony Graham lexus toyota) to see one in detail. Its such a nice car, had a better stance than in pics (no wheelgap) and the salesman was informed, professional and someone id like to deal with. He was also upfront about the seats lol!

Since i graduate from university in April I get 500$ off and .2% off interest if I finance it. Im seriously considering it. He offered to let me take it out for a rip but it was still on the stock tires and the weather was lousy so I passed, Ill drive it when the conditions are nicer. What a great car though, I want one in black. How much did you guys put down, and what are your monthly payments?

Remember, XRS is a grower. It takes some getting used to especially the overly responsive gas pedal and really soft clutch does not let you feel the grab point till you drive it a number of times. This is just a caution so that you can have faith in the car when you drive it for the first time. As for the payments, I received the $500 as well and then put $4500 more down with an interest rate of 5.5%.

During your test drive, remember to once rev it up to 8500 rpm to see how smooth it is even at that stratospheric rpm. Not to mention, you will never forget the symphony from under the hood.
