89 corolla sr5 installing speaker question

I have a quick question, i just got some 5.25" infinity 5002i speakers for my car (rear) and i was told they are 5.25" but when i put the infinity in they get stuck with about .5" left, the fat part just gets stuck in the mount that is already in there, so i dont know exact;y how to fix this, here is a picture

Funny, I was installing Infinitys in the back of my Corolla a few weeks ago and I had to cut metal for custom fitment cause they didn't go in deep enough. In your case though it looks like the screw holes from the Infinity won't even line up with the factory ones. Anyway, take some tin clippers, cut some metal, take a drill, make new screw holes and you're done. If you can, try to have something plastic between the speaker and the metal of the car. Good luck. Takes a while, but well worth it.

you may want to check the mounting depth of the speaker. i've had friends think that only the diameter matters and it wasted a lot of their time
